Non-Alcoholic Drinks for the Pregnant Woman

(from pregnant women!)

ita Salted
In Mixing Glass With Ice Add: 2 oz Sweet/Sour Mix , 1/2 oz Lime Juice, 1/2 oz Orange Juice,

Mineral water with a hint of a not-too-sweet fruit concentrate (I like IKEA elderflower or lingonberry), chilled, in a wine glass, with ice and a slice of lemon. ALMOST as good and much less dehydrating.

I have always liked club soda and orange juice.

Bellini - Take 1 1/4 cups of peach juice, add a tablespoon of lemon juice, and split that mixture in two flutes. Then top off with sparkling apple cider. 3411620

I am 29 weeks, and have had very, very strong cravings for Pina coladas. While at the grocery store, I went through the juice aisle and found V8 SPLASH SMOOTHIES in Pina colada!!! I put that in a blender with ice, it is EXCATLY like the real thing. PLUS, it has all the vitamins and minerals that are good for your baby, not to mention SOY PROTIEN! If you like virgin Pina coladas, try adding a few berries to the mix- raspberries are the best!

If you like frozen drinks, try the Bacardi frozen Pina Colada. It says to add rum but it is so great, even not pregnant I leave the rum out. It is very refreshing, especially in the summer!!!! 3261448

Try half club soda (carbonated water), half 100% fruit juice (like raspberry or cranberry), and add a lime wedge for a refreshing and healthy "spritzer".

One of my favorites is a non-alcoholic version of the rum punch that I enjoyed in the Bahamas during my first pregnancy. Just pour 1/2 glass orange juice and 1/2 glass pineapple juice. Top it off with a splash of grenadine and mix. Delicious and refreshing! Once pregnancy is over, add a shot of rum for an authentic taste of the islands.

One of my favorite non alcoholic drinks is orange juice and ginger ale. (approx. 2/3 orange juice and 1/3 ginger ale) 372987

Lime Rickie
Take 2/3 glass of Grape juice (even very sweet syrupy Kool-Aid works) and 1/3 glass 7-up, stir gently as not to dissolve all the carbonation. Garnish with a Lime wedge.

I'm a big fan of Shirley Temples, but instead of grenadine, I use the juice from a jar of cherries and sprite. I usually drop a couple of cherries in the bottom of the glass for added flavor.

Buttermilk Delight - 1 cup low fat buttermilk 2 cups water 1/2 " ginger 2 green chilies, salt & lemon juice 10-12 curry leaves take the ginger, green chilies, salt & curry leaves & crush them well with hands. Add 2 tsp. lemon juice & then add the buttermilk & water. Mix well & also add 2-3 ice-cubes(optional).

I like cosmopolitans, so I came up with this great refreshing drink:
1/2 Glass 100% Cranberry/Grape Juice 1/2 Glass Club Soda A splash of Rose's lime juice Garnish with a lime!

Try some frozen drink mixes, the kind you add the alchohol too when you blend it, but skip the liquor, add lemon juice for tartness, or soda water for a kick instead. 372976

A few of you asked about a substitute for a Mudslide. I looked up the ingredients and made a baby-friendly version. Remember, it's not going to taste exactly like the real thing, because there is just nothing that can duplicate the taste of coffee or vodka that is baby-friendly. But, I did my best. The Postum has a bitter, nutty taste reminiscent of coffee and the Irish Cream Coffee Mate tastes great!

First, make the substitute for the Kahlua.
"Postum Liqueur"
Boil together: 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup corn syrup When sugar is dissolved, remove from heat.
In a small tupperware or jug shake together 2 Tbsp. Postum 4 Tbsp. Water Until Postum is dissolved in the water. (If you don't do this, when you add the Postum to the syrup it makes big lumps)
Stir Postum mixture into sugar water, stirring constantly.
Add 2 Tbsp. Vanilla Extract
Mix 1 shot "Postum Liqueur" 1 shot Irish Cream Flavored Coffee Mate 1 shot Milk
It's pretty sweet, so adjust the flavors to your taste.
Postum and Irish Cream Coffee Mate have been my Coffee and Bailey's substitutes my whole life. (The "Postum Liqueur" can also be the substitute for Kahlua in a White Russian.
1 shot "Postum Liqueur" 2 shots Milk) 372969

My craving with my first baby was salt. Oh how I came to LOVE Virgin Lime Margaritas, blended, with salt.

I like to drink straight Tonic or add Tonic to a fruit juice; it's a great break from both plain water and the sweetness of almost every other nonalcoholic drink out there.

I like drinking cranberry juice and lemon-lime soda (about 50/50 mix). It looks fancy in a glass and tastes different enough that I feel like I am getting a treat. 373048

My husband makes me a faux cosmo with sparkling water, cranberry juice, lime juice and a lime wedge garnish in a martini glass - tastes great and it feels like a real drink in the martini glass. Another note: I noticed a couple people drinking Tonic Water. 372996

I came up with the best (and oh-so-simple) virgin wine cooler! Just mix up fruit juice from non-frozen (canned) concentrate using club soda instead of regular water. I like to use a little more than the amount on the can so it's not so sweet.

My favorite at the moment is 2/3 Sprite with 1/3 pineapple. If you're ordering it out, however, it might pay to ask for the other half of the mini-can of pineapple.

One of My favorites during pregnancy is a big glass of V8 with pepper and tobasco sauce. Kind of a twist on the Bloody Mary. 373045

Perrier - French Sparkling Water (Plain or Lemon Flavor) Martinelli Apple Cider with different flavors Tonic Sparkling Lemon Line Ginger Ale Caffeine Free Any Caffeine Free sodas (no cokes, pespi, dr. pepper, sprite, Seven Up) 372960

Get some Clamato juice or V8 juice and buy some ceaser salt - add a piece of healthy crunchy celery and you have yourself a virgin ceaser yum! 373041

Have the bartender to add a splash of sweet-n-sour to cranberry juice or grenadine in your orange juice. My favorite is 7-up with a little bit of both mixers - like a sparkling berry lemonade - and garnishes always make you feel like you're drinking a "grown-up" drink! 372979

A friend who has been like a big brother to me through my pregnancy, I'm still in my first trimester, has created a very delicious, very safe cocktail style drink from mixing a bottle of ginger ale, a bottle of Mountain Burst Powerade and two cans of concentrated orange juice together. It makes a lot of the drink, and is good, and is very healthy, despite the pleasing green color. Go ahead, try it out. It's great. I call it a Powerade Cocktail. 373036

I like to take Bacardi's (non-alcoholic) frozen margarita mix and blend it with Cherry 7-Up and ice. It's a great summer drink!! 2

My favorite "pregnancy drink" is orange juice, 7-up, and a splash of grenadine!

I have always been a big fan of the "Brown Cow" - a shot of Khalua in milk. As I am now about to start trying to conceive, I have decided to find a coffee-flavored syrup, which I can add to milk to achieve that same delicious taste.

I am a new mom to be and when I go to the bar with my friends I drink "Soda/or Tonic water with lemon and lime" the taste resembles the taste of beer. 372983

Clamato juice and Bull Gator Sauce make's the best Bloody Mary and less work to make it 8 oz of juice and one teaspoon gator sauce made bye Gator Hammock.

I know of a drink that's called pink panties. It usually contains gin, blended ice (crushed enough to be able to drink w/without a straw), pink lemonade, and whip cream, of course the virgin side of it is all of it except the gin. And with the pink lemonade, you use the frozen kind.

Try part pineapple juice, part orange juice and a splash of grenadine just for color. It's great and it looks pretty. 372943

Virgin cape cods: cranberry juice, with a splash of ginger ale to replace the vodka; don't forget the twist of lime.

Virgin sunrise: orange juice, splash of cranberry, splash of squirt, maraschino cherry. caffeine free diet coke & vanilla (variation of black Russian -- minus the Stolichnaya): caffeine free diet coke, splash of vanilla and a daub of cream or half and half.

I have found a really tasty drink, and it makes me almost think it is the real thing!! Put ice in the bottom of a cocktail glass, 1/3 of a glass of cranberry juice 1/3 of a glass of orange juice. Pour in 1/3 of 7-up (ginger ale) garnish with a lemon or lime and enjoy!

A Virgin Cosmopolitan--cranberry juice, pineapple juice and a splash of lime--is also quite nice, especially when served in a chilled martini glass. 78 0306
